Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 2, 2026 — full legal review pending

1. What we collect

We collect the information you give us directly: your name, email address, and profile details. If you're part of a gallery or organisation, this also includes the information you share about your artists, artworks, and exhibitions, along with any documents you submit when applying for Verified status.

We also collect basic information about how you use Art Index Africa — the pages you visit, the works you save, and similar activity — so we can keep the platform running smoothly and improve it over time.

2. How we use it

We use your information to keep your account running — signing you in, remembering your saved works and preferences, and delivering the features you rely on day to day.

We also use it to communicate with you about your account and, where you've opted in, editorial updates, and to review and verify organisations applying for Verified status, so that everyone on the platform can trust who they're dealing with.

We do not sell your personal data to anyone.

3. Communications and newsletters

Creating an account subscribes you to platform communications — new works, editorial features, fair previews and market notes — sent to the email address on your account. You can decline this at sign-up.

You can unsubscribe at any time from your account settings or via the unsubscribe link in any email we send. Doing so stops these communications immediately; it does not affect account or transactional emails needed to operate your account.

We use our email delivery provider to send these messages on our behalf. They receive only the information needed to deliver your emails and are not permitted to use it for any other purpose.

4. Who we share it with

We work with a small number of trusted service providers who help us run the platform — for secure cloud storage of images and files, authentication when you sign in, search so you can find artists and artworks, and email delivery for the messages we send you.

Each of these providers only ever sees the information they need to do their specific job, and none of them are permitted to use your data for anything else.

5. How we protect it

Your data is encrypted and access to it is tightly restricted — only people who genuinely need it to do their job can see it. Passwords are never stored in plain text.

Art Index Africa is a verified-only platform for publishing: organisations go through a review process before they can list artists and artworks, which helps keep the information on the platform trustworthy and reduces the risk of misuse.

6. Your rights

You can ask us to show you the personal data we hold about you, correct anything that's inaccurate, or delete your data entirely. You can also withdraw your consent for optional communications, such as editorial updates, at any time via your account settings or the unsubscribe link in any email.

To exercise any of these rights, contact us using the details below.

7. Cookies

We use a small number of cookies to keep the platform working properly — for example, to keep you signed in and remember your preferences. We don't use cookies for advertising or to track you across other websites.

8. Contact

Questions about this Privacy Policy or your data can be directed to support@artindexafrica.com.

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time as the platform evolves. If we make significant changes, we'll let you know. The date at the top of this page always reflects the most recent update.
